Are you one of the 119 million Americans who uses prescription drugs? If so, then you probably understand just how difficult it can be to manage your prescription. In fact, 50% of Americans don’t take their pills as prescribed. A large part of this has to do with the confusion that some pharmacies cause, due to their clunky and sometimes outdated methods or processes. But we live in an age where almost any current service can be offered digitally, and thus, more simply. And that is exactly what PillPack is aiming to do.

Founded in 2013, PillPack is an online pharmacy with the goal of creating a hassle-free pharmaceutical experience. Typically, if you have a prescription for a medication, you would need to travel to the nearest pharmacy, pick up the prescription, remember to take it as needed, then work with your doctor and pharmacy to refill the prescription, and in some cases, speak to your insurance provider; all of this combined makes the experience incredibly long and complex. PillPack takes that complexity out and still provides you with the medications you require.

The company combines modern technology with personalized service in order to create a unique and efficient experience. PillPack works with your doctor to get the correct medication, packages all the pills you need to take on a daily basis into tiny packets sorted by dose and day and delivers the packs to your house every month. The packs are even stored in a handy dispenser that allows for quick and easy removal. PillPack even has the ability to automatically update your prescription.

While the service is nice, it is understandable that someone would have concerns regarding their personal information, but PillPack has received phenomenal reviews from its users and has an 80% satisfaction rating.

The company’s pride and joy is its proprietary operating system (OS). The OS is what makes the automation possible. It can renew prescriptions, check for authorization, ensure proper dosage and can communicate with users via multiple methods, all on its own. Customers can even check their account from the mobile or desktop application.

It is always exciting to see the pharmaceutical industry being shaken up by new and innovative inventions. I am eager to know if PillPack will take off, but in a world obsessed with personalized customer service and ease-of-use, it is hard to imagine that it won’t.
